Tal's made the first move, but his feint was given away by a twitch of muscle, catching on, Sah moved his wrist out of harms' way. More specifically, he moved to grab Tal's own wrist and immobilize the courier. As he attempted to do so, the hunter used his own knife to go for Tal's ribs. If he successfully grabbed the other man's wrist, Sah was banking on him twisting to try and free himself, leaving his ribs exposed.
