Ru thinks, amused and chagrined, that maybe she has it worse than the first time she realized she loved him.

Only to soften and turn in his shadow to look into his face, grief and regret twinging in her chest. Instead of lingering on those dark days, the Valkyrie gives a small wry smile and drops one of the spines into her container with a thunk. “I drank myself sick for seasons after,” she confesses, and knows he will understand the gravity of that given her aversion to alcohol. “Halo is too tightly knit for most drug dealers to take hold though. I never had the option. Though I don’t know if I would have tried.” Alcohol had already stripped her of her revered control. Hotaru suspects drugs would drive her insane.
