So here's to everything coming down to nothing
Here's to silence that cuts me to the core
He wanted her there.

He wanted her there.

And that little insight was enough to bring a fleeting sense of relief, because it reaffirmed that he had been thinking of her, that she hadn't been the only one pining away, that she'd been right to wait for him - because he'd been going through a lot, and he couldn't get back to her, and it wasn't that he didn't love her or that he didn't want her or that he'd forgotten her, and that made all the difference.

"I want to be able to, too," she murmured, tracing little circles on his skin with her thumb. Gods, but she'd missed him - missed the feel of him next to her, the sound of his voice, his scent, his everything - and for a moment she wondered if it was a dream, that she'd wake up to find that he was still gone and that she was alone again. "I think - I think we need to," he admitted. "And we've always been able to talk about anything, haven't we?" she said, almost pleading. "If anyone can do it, we can. And you're right, ending aside - last time wasn't so bad."

She may not know much about relationships, but she knew that communication was key, and she knew that she'd never had to think too much about communication with Jude. It had always been easy, and they'd always been open. Almost always, whispered a voice in the back of her mind, and the guilt and shame flickered in the back of her mind.

"I forgive you," she said. "Do you forgive me?" She pulled back to peer at him hopefully, her silver eyes filled with a desperation that she was sure Jude would see. She hadn't grown much better at hiding her emotions in the time he'd been away, and he'd always been incredibly attuned to them, regardless. "I love you," she told him, not quite hesitant, but almost afraid: for the first time she wasn't sure that he'd say it back. "I want it to be us against the world, always."

Whether that meant as a couple or as friends remained to be seen.
Where is this going?
Thought I knew for a minute, but I don't anymore
