Her tease, the groan over preferring Floods has him playfully rolling his eyes, moving on to the rest of the tasks at hand because truthfully, there is so much still to do. So in favor for finishing up the kitchen, the one piece of the house he’d actually gotten to painting and setting up exactly how she’d designed, had been partly the reason the house was designed the way it was. It was around the sketch she’d completed, showing it to him, leaving it on the dresser in his room in the House of Midnight.
So he’d taken it and ran with it, and with two rooms done there’s already a comforting lift of tension from his shoulders, replaced with more and more quiet frustration over having to wait to have her all to himself. But right now? In this exact moment, Sunjata’s hands run up and down her upper arms in warmth and appreciation, his steel gaze scanning her dual toned ones to try and gather a read on her fatigue, mostly, given how busy she’s been as of late.
He doesn’t expect to get the answer he does, though, and it bleeds all that sappy warmth from his heart down the bond back toward her in response – healing for the both of them, able to create a space that’s entirely there’s and only theirs, a space that if they’d told themselves so many years ago that this is where they’d be, they’d have laughed at the idea of what the future held.
But it feels good.
His hand lifts to cup her cheek, still pinning her where she is, blocking her in with his body and responding to her comment with a huff of laughter – still true to himself in being able to show his appreciation better by physical touch rather than speaking his thoughts. His thumb strokes along her cheek and he leans in to press his forehead against hers, taking a moment to breathe her scent in, to settle that draconic sensation within him to realize that all of this is his treasure. “I had to check, you’ve been busy lately.” He rumbles in response to the latter half of their conversation, before he pulls away, bumping his nose against hers as he peers at her again through his long lashes.
“We deserve this.” He says it with all the ferocity of a mantra, a way to heal past mistakes not only forced on each other, but everyone else.
