Taking it upon herself to make the sign and stock the shelves with any books she thought might be helpful to her in her self-appointed role as Loreseeker, Maea listened to Kiada's arguments and found an answer in them, to a question she'd been asking for a while now. Of why she kept returning to the Hollowed Grounds even though she couldn't claim to love it, why no other region truly felt like an option.
Safety. Pure and simple. Such a basic thing that she never realized it, until now.
"Stormbreak would kill magic users simply for going there. The ward might be lifted now, but how many would lift a hand to help any of us if something were to happen?" Maea's spoke quietly, but with a matter of fact tone that said little about her own thoughts. "I hear Torchline put a curse against the Ascended on the Skyport docks. Up until the outbreak of the war, the general consensus among the Old God's followers was that the death of all the Ascended was an acceptable byproduct of defeating the Voice. And before that, those who lived in this region were sacrificed for the 'greater good' of containing the Voice in the barrier."
The scratch of her quill against snowy white parchment filled the pauses whenever she quieted. "Some certainly chose to put their lot in with the Voice, and I won't defend her actions in any way. But I agree that this region still carry the trauma of their treatment under the hands of the gods, and while the sentiment of inclusivity is nice... is anyone trying to include us? Will you build shrines to Dygra in all the other regions so that we will be comfortable? Are you going to take responsibly if a shrine of the Three ends up being used as a platform of bigotry against the Ancients who come here for refuge and a new start?"
They were not the same as the Ascended, but was there any guarantee that resentment wouldn't spill over just because of where they chose to live? Maea didn't know. She had no answers; only a gnawing sense of unease she couldn't quite phrase into words.
"I'm not saying no," she continued, making sure to catch Talyson's gaze. "But I would like more assurances before agreeing. Above all, I want to know that this is about more than self-gratification on your part. There are plenty of other shrines across the other regions - and like you said, you are half nomadic anyway. Why do you need one here?"
