It hadn't been Ronin's intention to startle the girl, and as Amalia turned he took a half step backwards, as if to give her some space if she needed. He tilted his head, listening intently to her explanation - what little of it she could get out, anyway. Prayers, memories... Ronin burned to ask more, but at that moment a crow swooped down and plonked itself upon the young woman's shoulder. Fists clenching unconsciously at his sides, Ronin resisted the urge to instantly move forward and swat the bird away.

He was glad he did, too, for it turned out not to be any old crow. The mere way the woman said Jorseval 's name told him that he was likely staring at a shapechanger rather than a simple bird. A smile flickered across his face at the obnoxious caw in his direction, but his reply was lost in the distraction of Edrei 's arrival.

"Is that a bobcat?" he asked the former Storm Guard, arching an eyebrow at her.
