Following the captain's gaze, the thief gave the sort of audible gulp followed by a cartoonesque lump descending down his throat. " 'course I'll stay an' help, Jackie-boy. 'course I will."
"Yeah..." Feeling her cheeks flush, the Doubletake runs her tongue across the top of her mouth as if she might somehow eliminate the bad taste which has suddenly sprung up. Glancing over her shoulder as she's reached for, Flora's eyes looked down where Jude's fingers have encircled her wrist. Much like her (half) brother, the Doubletake quite likes being touched, even if it is just in a friendly way, and so rather than stiffen, Flora instead reaches for Jude's arm and wraps both arms around it.
Sighing as she hugs him close against her side, she smiles rather than laughs, if only because no part of her feels the way he's just painted her. "Yeah. No, you're right. Fuck him. We're both better off without them." It didn't feel true, but the lie sounded pretty.
