And it was laughable, really, that she could step in front of Dahlia without hesitating, but dreaded the reaction of this man to that very same act as if he was somehow more dangerous. It should be the opposite, right? Easier to confront an acquaintance than the biggest threat Caido had seen in years.

It was the one thing she regretted about the whole affair. Endangering the child... and leaving the room.
