Zavien
I think all things,
in their way,
in their way,
Not quite sure what to make of Maea's cryptic pessimism, Zavien frowned. He couldn't imagine assuming the worst of people all the time. It must be so tiring. Although tempers tended to run higher during stressful times, it didn't make their emotions or views any less valid. Sometimes they just needed someone to be understanding.
Smiling sadly at her perspective, he said, "I would disagree." He disagreed with her perception of him and her outlook on the world. Zavien wasn't anything special or different. There were plenty of good, kind people in Caido who wanted to see the best in others.
"The stakes are higher, sure, but that's why small shows of grace and kindness go so much farther. People need to be reminded even more that evil only wins when we let it influence how we treat each other. We just need to be more forgiving when people forget that." It may be a naive view fueled by someone who hadn't experienced many hardships (other than his mother's murder), but it was something he firmly believed. Humans were a resilient species that performed best when they banded together. When the enemy was able to come between them, their fractured society made it easy to pick them off, especially when they helped by attacking each other. However, a single act of compassion could change someone's mood enough to influence their own actions.
Sensing that Maea wanted to be alone, Zavien dipped his head politely, giving her a small smile. "It was nice to meet you as well. Even if you don't choose to assist between me and Hadama, I hope to see you again under better circumstances." Maybe when they weren't being attacked by random dock workers. He still wasn't sure why they had followed her, but he didn't think she would appreciate his questions at this point. So with a final dip of his head, Zavien turned to leave her, already thinking about what snack he'd grab on the way home.
