Only decades of keeping his inner expressions to himself prevents Jack from wrinkling his nose incredulously at Flora's train of thought. Probably a good thing, too, when it's a choice between suicide and whatever else she has in mind. Which, as it happens, is a U-turn so abrupt it even takes the captain's swift mind a hot minute to catch up, so much so that he blinks right past the (admittedly ingenious) response that commits to neither course of action when it comes to his secret.

Still, as she shuffles closer to his side, it's only the weighty feel of her blue eyes that has him raising his arm, however reluctantly, to let it land around her, drawing her close against his side even as one leg still swings from the Last Step, feeling the swift nothing beneath. "I'm already king in every way that matters," he says without pomp or arrogance, "and King's End can keep it's shitty docks for now."

Frowning out into the darkness - because of course Flora knows to go for the real key to his heart - Jack shrugs and then relaxes somewhat, turning his head to nose against her curls. "An audience with Safrin can be hard to come by for an Abandoned," he remarks. "And what would you get out of this, pray tell?" In other words, what is the captain strapping himself in for?
