There were still two layers of dishes left in the picnic basket, but the appetizers were meant to be nibbled while they talked; finger foods that they could use to take the edge off their hunger without having to stop their conversation. The shadows that deepened around them only made the lanterns glow brighter in comparison, though the sky was afire with gold and pink and violet and cobalt blue above them, the stars slowly appearing from the east as the dark cloak of night drew gently over the land.
While the companions romped (and hunted) nearby, Tal accepted his glass from Alys and took a larger sip of his own, distracted by watching his partner enjoy her own drink. The carbonation caught him by surprise and he coughed a little, pulling a face as the bubbles went up his nose and burned. He managed to swallow the alcohol down without further incident at least, even if it left a few tears in his eyes and he ducked his head in embarrassment. "I, uh... stargazer lilies'd suit you," he agreed, poking at a grape as his ears turned red in the fading light. "I bet one'd look great in your hair." Tucked behind her ear or braided into the warm brown tresses.
He snuck a glance at her, lips quirked back into a rueful smile. "Maybe we can plant some lilies around th'house in Flowerbirth?"
