The crew is working as quickly as they can under Flora's watchful aqua stare (she doesn't really know what she's looking at or for, but she certainly knows how to appear as if she does). No one is singing or joking; they hadn't even before this mishap, but now with their captain somewhere below in the fog no one seemed willing to do much more than bark a few curt words and only if it was strictly necessary.
With no real way to gauge the time, Flora tried to calm her breathing and use that as a rough indicator of how many seconds were ticking on by. Her heart was thundering even so and despite the way she was forcing herself to inhale and exhale on a rough schedule, it still felt like an eternity had passed.
