I can survive well enough on my own
Noticing Alys's shifting attention to the books, Elizabeth pulled a personal favorite that she recognized on the shelf. The royal blue cover was dusty, but she could make out the title 'Pursuit of Happiness' in gilded text. With a smile, she offered it to the woman. "You might like this one. It follows a strong-willed maiden who is forced to rely on the kindness of a stranger to get home. His pure, determined pursuit of her is a swoon-worthy slow burn. It had me wanting to marry him by the end." She remembered staying up all night to finish the book, clutching it in her arms as she finally settled into a dream filled with romantic actions and flowery words of love. Her parents couldn't get her focused for a week. It now sat on her shelf, worn with frequent attention.

The fact that the woman didn't scoff or roll her eyes in disbelief at her vision was a good sign, while also concerning. If people were so certain of the culpability of the Void that they easily believed a giant Void crystal was brewing, how destructive would the 'hatching' of these figures be to Caido? Perhaps Tal had been right about his feelings that it was 'evil.' Filing the thoughts away for later, she gave Alys a grimacing glance. "I agree. Just be cautious and keep your eyes open." The warning went without saying, but she stressed it nonetheless. People could never be too careful these days.
