Deimos's snort had Elizabeth blushing. She hadn't been trying to pry, just glancing for any signs of fleeting occupancy. But it was still embarrassing to be caught looking, so she cleared her throat and gave a grimaced smile disguised by a playful wiggle of her hands. "Of course. I just didn't know if a little face was going to pop up in the window." Which might have been a scarier sight than Belial. Maybe it was a good thing they were out.
Elizabeth wasn't sure what she'd expected him to say, but she found his response satisfactory enough. It was obvious that he was too practical to fully appreciate the question, even if he did admit to wanting more children. Hopefully, the world would slow down enough for him to feel comfortable focusing on his family with Evie. Although, at this rate, all their lives would be consumed by the Void, whether it was the infection or fear of it. She gave him a sad, understanding smile. "I suppose we can't ignore it, but we shouldn't stop living our lives. There's never going to be a perfect moment, so we have to embrace the little time we have." It was one of the reasons she'd set out on her own. If she didn't take a leap, she might never have the opportunity. Sometimes, the opportunity had to be created.
At this point, she noticed that they only had one set of supplies left. It seemed like their preparations were about done. Deimos wouldn't be able to hide from his other responsibilities forever.
