Charlie got the message.
Though her proceeding swat of Maea's face had filled her with a devilish delight that might have encouraged her to keep playing this dangerous game a while longer, the dull slap across her brow had stars filling her vision. Staggering to the side, Charlie's bright blue eyes dimmed as unconsciousness threatened to thrust her back into her own body. It passed, though, owing largely to the fact that Maea didn't take advantage of her weakened state, solidifying in the priestess' mind that it likely was an ancient she'd been sparring with.
Not that it mattered, not really.
Yowling softly, her tail curled around her hind legs, this time as Charlie dropped her shoulders they stayed down, as did she. Dropping her gaze somewhere near Maea's paws, the ancient retreated a few steps, and then a few more. Only when she judged herself an appropriate distance away did she spin and begin to properly run.
