Zavien smiled at his friend's own enthusiasm for the s'mores, already selecting the next sacrificial marshmallow. As he did so, he listened to Tal's story with an increasingly lowering frown. It wasn't a pleasant topic, but he hadn't been expecting this. A Void Crystal? And more of the Family. How were they supposed to compete with that?
Shaking his head with wide, disbelieving eyes, he asked, "There's more? What could be any worse?" He'd already admitted that there were more powerful beings on the way when they were already struggling with the few that they were aware of (not that Zavien knew who they were).
Nerves ran through his body, making him shift uncomfortably while the heat somehow felt hotter. He tried to keep his mind occupied, preparing more chocolate and cracker sets with fidgeting hands.
