// I tried to scream but my head was underwater //
His emotions felt like sunlight and green leaves, babbling brooks and clear ocean waves sighing against her weatherbeaten rocks. The tension in her began to loosen in response, lulled by the calm tone as much as the memories he evoked. Smiling back, Maea nodded. "I remember," she said dreamily. "You had Aoife in a sling on your chest, and I was trying to keep the weeds from taking over the garden." She had lost her family, he had lost Ronin, and they were both just trying to keep going. That he had thought of her as delicate, perhaps even fragile, turned her mouth sideways in a complicated expression. No doubt he was right. Though part of her wondered if she hadn't been steadier back then, at least mentally. These days it felt like her body was the only thing that grew and developed, while her thoughts remained stuck and unable to move.
Refocusing back on Remi, she kept his hand but exchanged her mug for a cracker. Before she could take a bite however, his question dropped and she sat up a bit, stunned. "... No. I haven't. Sunjata and I, we haven't... really talked since before I died. What happened?"
Tasting his guilt like it was her own, not even the bitter tea or the sweet cracker quite managed to chase it off. Wondering where this was going, she waited, breathing against uneasy flips of her gut - she could sit with them later.

// They called me weak, like I'm not just somebody's daughter //
