It took Melita a great deal of time to track down who the hell Hawthorn was (i.e. she asked her uncle and knew within two minutes except literally a season later). But going off descriptions only helped so much, and it forced her to listen to traits and details, rather than just flickering and floating down the lane at the first spark of recognition.
And though not one to frequent any sort of brothel, just wasn’t her kind of thing, she knew she’d be safe within the House of Midnight’s lobby, watching and waiting. It did help to be invisible, settled nicely in a chair, feet propped on a stool. She could people watch for a bit, and no one had tried to sit on her yet – though that could’ve been because Fangorn was quite visible and on her lap and making rumbling noises.
Several came and went, flirting and ridiculous, and she was free to roll her eyes and make retching faces behind the veil of demigod incantations. Arms crossed, she leaned back further, continuing to study the door for a certain individual. Then she’d have to formulate the rest of her plot, but that’d be fine too.
