Maea
Feeling the living, breathing presence of her friends under her hands finally awarded some calm to Maea. Her heart still raced, but at least she was able to breathe again, and when she eventually let them go to sit back on her heels, most of the shadows in her periphery simply belonged to the forest.
Despite that, she didn't hide her reluctance against Tal's suggestion. "I'm... not sure that I can," she admitted. "Going under water... I've only done it once and it was the most terrifying experience. You don't know if there's air to breathe in there, if it's wide enough - what if we get stuck?"
Pale faced and worried, she was still clutching at the rope. "At least... let's not all go down, please? I can stay here, hold the rope..." Maea thought she would be strong enough to hold her own if anything should happen while she was alone. And they would be two going down...
But she would not decide for them.
