// I tried to scream but my head was underwater //
A sinking feeling in the stomach was what the clopping of heels against craggy rock evoked in the ancient. Apparently this wasn't the secluded refuge she had thought it might be. Where exactly would she have to go to be left alone? With a sour burn in her throat she cast about for somewhere to hide, hastily trying to decide whether to shift, what to turn into, whether it was better to kindle a light or simply shrink into the darkness until this disturbance had passed...
But the quiet was already disrupted, and her moment ruined. By the time Flora came into view Maea was still undecided and stood hovering on the edge of the bloody pool, watching the dazzling approach of the young queen like a deer in headlights. Unable to think of anything to say, and even less capable of looking away.
Belatedly, the idea of plunging into the pool came to mind. To maybe sink beneath the surface and stay there until the danger had passed. What danger, though? Of being perceived? Spoken to? She really was back to running away, huh... "How pathetic." It was muttered under breath, a slip of the tongue never intended for anyone but herself. Unfortunately the caves echoed, and the sound spread round and round like an evil circle.

// They called me weak, like I'm not just somebody's daughter //
