you were automatic and as hollow as the 'O' in god
It's almost a shame that Danta is as rabid as he is currently, because he'd have quite enjoyed being in his right mind and making a scene like the one that greets the Dusklight as Asta tries to wrestle him out of the building and towards the square and the bonfire. Alas, he's focused on trying to slowly detatch the butcher's arm from the rest of his body as he's marched, hissing and writhing through the portal, and even the heat of the Climb isn't enough to bring him around.
No, only as Asta manhandles his little jaws away from his flesh and towards whatever creatures are nearby does Danta refocus; granted, the butcher might have to helpfully fling him towards the Climb natives, but as soon as he's free the Maverick is back on two feet, a blur of scarlet silk and hopelessly tousled blond that soon disappears after one of the pyrina. And the sheep-like creatures might be stubborn and stupid, but they also know a predator when they see one.
Unfortunately, it doesn't really help them in the long run.
It takes a grand total of about fifteen minutes for Danta to catch, kill, and tear his prey to pieces, and whilst it's true that he's eaten enough to more than sate his bloodlust, the needless brutality of the kill tells another story entirely. Left panting and bloodied and on his knees around the carcass of the pyrina, Danta reaches up a hand to wipe at his face for all the good that it will do.
