The encantado seems to be a perfect distraction, though, and in a strange whiplash for his friend, the smile he flashes her is crooked due to the scar, but genuine. “If you wanna go and plant it, I’m gonna see what kind of shit the encantados are up to today.” An excuse, of course, but one that hopefully doesn’t get read into too much.
He won’t go far, but he also doesn’t want to be involved with the whole seed pod ordeal, so keeping his distance until she’s free of it and they can continue their reconnection would make it that much easier for him to not sour their reconnection.
