Even more softly said, the Doubletake just shrugs to herself as her eyes fall from the ancient's shoulders back down to the pathway lest she trip over a root or his tail.

Did it make her clench her teeth together just the same, to think of someone—anyone—telling the butcher that what had been done to him was fine?
