"As opposed to what?" Flora wonders softly, sinking back onto her heels. The heat of the day, of Jack's body, suddenly seemed far away and she had to stiffen against a shiver. "A spoiled brat?" She'd been that already; no doubt was still thought of that way by some. "Some princess waiting for her prince charming?" Jack would never be that, it was true, but as the years went on, it was just as unlikely for Flora. All of her parents had been painted as villains at one point in their lives, and though the queen knew that certainly wasn't the example they'd likely want her to follow, it did make the title easier to consider bearing.

Feeling her thoughts grow thorny as her mind refused to interpret Jack's words as simply being measured and thoughtful rather than just a way of keeping one foot out the door so he could leave at any time, Flora let her gaze slip from his face to one of the buttons on his shirt, studying it in silence. It was naive, she knew, to want to admit that she'd kill to keep Jack having never killed anything that was actively trying to kill her first, and yet. But then, she supposed, she actually had to have the captain the way he had her.

Sighing softly as the thickets around this particular dark garden thickened, Flora nods. "K—" Another thing to talk about later.
