ache first, but then let the cuts close
spit out the blood

The contemplation gave him pause; perhaps because he’d been hoping that once some regions were reclaimed, it wouldn’t be an issue any longer. The Family would weaken. Perhaps diminish in some steads. But the notions that they may have to do the same things over and over again made his jaw clench, brows furrowing slightly as his eyes narrowed, studying the altar while his mind traced elsewhere. I wonder if the flowers ward them off. Ordinarily, he might have suspected the one placed on Starfall’s shore to simply be plucked away and gone within a moment. Maybe there was something traced within that they weren’t seeing or realizing just yet.
Taking another long, steady breath, he nodded, the uncertainty pulsing around him. For all the confidence they’d had the moment they’d peeled away from that dreaded isle without a scratch, that didn’t mean anything else was going to go so well. I will see what the others say and likely try to put it in the Greatwood – then we can go from there. Because, as far as he knew, they didn’t have any other plants to disperse – and if time wasn’t on their side, they’d probably soon find out the results of the game at hand.
Collecting himself for the semblances ahead, and knowing he, and the goddess, had multitudes to conduct, he gave her another smile. “Thank you again. I will see what can be done.”
And from there, he’d venture outward – into offices, through letters, and on another brief sojourn.

watch your body pull itself back together
then let your soul do the same
then let your soul do the same
