Abraia’s eyes narrowed as he tripped, a brief glance informing her that she had a chance. The sweeping kick made contact and she watched him go down; she was ready with her feet apart and her fists clenched. But he was no sooner on the ground before she saw the dim light flicker in his palms. She stiffened and wondered what stunt he was up to; she automatically flinch and cover her face from the tiny sparks that flew around her.
Her distraction was a split second too long – he was already advancing towards her the moment she noticed his movement. She turned around and tried to avoid him, but the force he put into it told her he was not longer toying with her. “Great effort,” she said softly, and tried to concentrate once again. Her reflexes improved, and she anticipated his next unpredictable actions that he was likely to make next.
