Alys hadn't meant her offense to be quite so sharp, and she softened quickly, reaching out to grasp Tal's hand with a squeeze. "Sorry," she murmured, a blush creeping across her cheeks at her outburst. She reached up to touch his face, tugging him gently closer as she pressed a kiss to the other cheek in apology. Resting her forehead against his for a moment, she smiled into his eyes. "Payment in kisses would be fair. I just - I would do anything for you. You never owe me anything." It wasn't the most eloquent way to explain, but it was something. It felt important in a way she couldn't entirely describe: that they were equals, and what was hers was also his, and that that extended to any talents she possessed.
Setting up for the reading was quick and simple, with a space cleared for the deck that Tal had chosen - the darker of the two, which didn't surprise Alys in the least. She put the lighter deck back in the little silk pouch she kept it in, setting it aside before beginning to shuffle the chosen deck. She riffled the deck a few times, then overhand shuffled, continuing in this manner until it just felt right; then she cut the deck, set it down, and drew the first card.
The selected card depicted a man sitting alone beneath a tree, three cups on the ground before him. A fourth cup floated in the air, held out by a disembodied hand. "The four of cups," she said, her voice soft, but confident. "Contemplation and introspection. Sometimes, this card can indicate a moment of stagnation or dissatisfaction." For a moment, Alys felt a pang of worry. Was there something in their lives that Tal was unhappy with? Perhaps the reading was pointing to her as a source of something negative for Tal. Still, she continued on, doing her best to drive out the unwanted thoughts. This was the problem with reading for someone she loved; she couldn't help but consider the possibility that the cards were pointing to her. "This card invites us to look inward, to shift our perspective, and embrace the gifts that are already present rather than focusing too much on what has been or will be."
Then she paused, glancing at Tal from under her lashes, as she waited for any feedback before reached for the next card.
