Above, the sky stretched out in a smooth expanse of pale, cold blue, broken only by the drift of a distant shadow—a vast shape, cutting across the light. The dragon, spectral in hue, soared like a harbinger of ancient wrath, its wings unfurled wide as if to cast a veil over the sun. Each beat of those terrible wings seemed to shiver the very air, sending a biting draft down into the ferns and grasses, bending the delicate fronds as if bowing before an approaching doom.

The creature's scales glimmered in the noon light, bone-white, a terror among the thin, scattered clouds. Its long neck curved elegantly as it glided, surveying the forest below, nostrils flaring to catch the scent of life. From this great height, the world beneath appeared as a lush patchwork of dark green, black sand, and glinting streams—an illusion of serenity darkened by the dragon’s baleful presence, an omen of impending ruin.

It circled slowly, lazily, wings hardly moving, the predator's patience woven into every graceful motion. With each pass, it descended lower, its spiral tightening like the coils of a snare, the shadow growing sharper, colder, with every moment. In the wood, Noah and Cordelia's prey would grow restless, stamping its delicate hooves against the soft earth. Then came a sudden pause in the dragon's movement—an unnatural stillness, the moment when the predator's gaze fixed upon its prey.
