i'd wipe the dirt off your name with the shirt off my back
Torchline's queen was wasted. Like, proper white-girl, lost her shoes on the dance floor, requested the same song 3 times from the DJ, had a breakdown in the bathroom, and solved someone's relationship problem in the next breath kind of wasted.
But let me explain how we got here.
After leaving the Northaven, Flora had planned on going home, taking a long and hot enough shower to have her skin scalding wherein she could figure out what she was going to tell Jack. Despite his recent declaration of love, Flora knew that one of the things the captain liked about her most was what a bright and remarkable place her mind was, followed by the fact that she was not only strong but driven. After so many failures in various KQs leading right up to her murder, having to fess up that ha ha both Sunjata and my mom are/were infected and I didn't notice and also I was just kidnapped, not to mention that rather than being queen she'd much rather be invisible, Flora had never felt so unlovable as she did stepping out of the shower and gazing at herself as she tugged on a black tank top and a pair of Jack's sweatpants. Topping the outfit off with a floral sweater that absolutely didn't match, she'd decided to stop by her bar just for a quick something to take the edge off, so that when she swanned aboard the Ark Jack would be happy to see her, rather than overwhelmed and annoyed by the state of her mind.
In an effort to hasten her return to the captain, the queen had drank too much too fast, such that the bar quickly began to spin around her, shaking out the thoughts she'd tried to jam beneath the rugs and various closets in her mind. So when some seedy nobody sauntered up to Flora offering a tablet of something that he assured her would have the room returning to a fixed position and would even help her sleep wouldn't you know, the queen agreed almost instantly, hardly noticing the way his fingers were curling around her hip given how numb and faraway her body felt.
