Unfortunately for Zavien, Alys was simply the messenger; she interpreted the cards, but had no control over what messages the universe wished to provide to a querent. So she smiled a bit sheepishly at the dragoon, whisking the cards from the table and shuffling them back into the pile. "The cards can mean many things," she said almost apologetically. "While they aren't magic in the typical sense of the word, they do have a power all their own. And I am only human. I interpret as best I can, and at times the true meaning only becomes clear in hindsight.
"Besides," she added. "Remember that your decisions can change things. The future is not set in stone. You could return tomorrow for another reading and receive a different message, if perhaps you have started down a different path. It is why I often have repeat clients."
