Like Lena, Noe didn't have the coin for one of everything, and she made her selections with her meager hoard of money in mind. She'd only just started her own business, after all, and things were slower than she'd anticipated. It was the time of year - people were settling in and sticking with what they had rather than building anything new. Which was fine and all, except that it meant less business for her.
As Noe paid the vendor, Mika uncoiled herself from around the girl's neck and floated cheerfully over to Lena, politely taking the jerky from the Caretaker's outstretched palm before hissing her thanks and returning to Noe, twining back beneath her bonded's waves in an attempt to stay warm. "Thank you," Noe said, her voice full of a warmth that she reserved for Mika and very few people. "She's everything I never knew I needed."
With their purchase made and more to see, Noe gestured to the market. "I saw a milliner around the corner with the most outrageous hats," she said. "Do you want to go see, or are you busy?"

Was feeling so weak but baby I'm strong
Little did I know I'm a champion
Little did I know I'm a champion
