// I tried to scream but my head was underwater //
"What is that?" Stopping abruptly to stare, she pointed out the oddity to Tal. It looked like a jellyfish floating on a sea of cream, the frothy waves sprinkled with some kind of confectionary sugar.
"A dessert, miss, and a bit of a best seller if I may say so myself."
He sounded proud, and rightfully so. The dessert was very finely crafted, a sizeable helping more than enough for two. But that's not what had caught Maea's attention. The jellyfish was transparent, just like the real thing. And it was purple. She'd never seen the like before.
"Well yes, but what is it? Like, what's it made of?"
"Oh, the centerpiece? Grape jelly. With some food dye. It's perfectly safe, of course."
Of course. It wasn't like purple had taken on a connotation of danger, void and nightmarish things of late. It seemed in poor taste to her, but given the line behind her, the vendor wasn't exaggerating.
She glanced at Tal again. "Want to give it a try? My treat." She hoped it might cheer him up a bit; the courier seemed quieter than usual.
