The woods shimmered in a new light as towering oak trees stretched skyward, their golden leaves filtering the sunlight like whispers of hope. As Alys knelt before the shrine, her small tarot card—marked boldly with the word “Death” and the image of a dark, hooded figure offering a skeletal hand cradling a bright orange butterfly, the gentle rustling of oak leaves seemed to answer her plea. From the shifting shadows stepped Mort, his presence as warm and comforting as a long-forgotten lullaby. He looked, of course, like none of the normal depictions of death. His dark curls caught the sunlight as he approached, earthen eyes filled with quite affection and laughter. "Alys," he greeted, his voice soft and delighted. "I have been listening all along. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to speak with you properly."
Grinning, the god tilts his head. "Perhaps you could give her the message yourself." With a graceful gesture, Mort stepped aside, and from behind him emerged Sascha. "Sascha has been enjoying her time in my halls," he explains, placing his hands into his pockets. "But of course I understand your longing. Perhaps there is a way to bring you together again, though it is not a simple thing that you ask."
