He hadn't heard the news of Seren's passing - wouldn't have even known who she was if he had - so Zavien was surprised by the lack of flourish that came with Safrin's arrival. At first, he thought it may have been for his sake, a restraint in consideration for his own melancholy mood; yet there was a depth and genuineness to it that couldn't be achieved with mere sympathy. As she lifted his head, he took in her words and appearance, momentarily drawn from his self-pity and the quest she'd given him.
His green eyes searched her, a familiar feeling of protective concern returning to his gaze. He couldn't imagine what may have transpired to dampen her own light, and he asked gently, "Has something happened?" The goddess certainly wouldn't need his help, but it felt right to have someone else to worry over, and she'd done enough for him to earn a level of personal compassion from him. Whether she chose to share or dismiss him, Zavien was grateful for her time, nonetheless.
