Mort was gentle and understanding as he spoke, and Alys got the distinct impression that he’d have understood her even if she hadn’t given voice to any words at all. She looked between the god and her beloved companion, who peered up at her with wide eyes. If Sascha was willing, and it was possible, than Alys would go to the ends of Caido to get her back. But Mort’s warning weighed heavily on her soul: should she do this, or was it just a selfish request meant to bring herself some peace rather than honor Sascha’s memory? Perhaps she should be using this time to say goodbye, not to find a new way to say hello.
But then Sascha headbutted her, and the seer smiled, stroking the little ursur’s head lovingly. ”I understand,” Alys said softly. ”And I thank you for considering the request and for guiding me.” Yes, she would do this. If Sascha was willing, then Alys would do everything in her power to succeed.
Their few minutes passed quickly - too quickly for Alys, who had no desire to say goodbye to her companion. Too soon, it was time for them to go, and with Mort and Sascha gone from her senses, Alys began the trek back to the Peregrine, her step lighter than it had been in weeks.
