Maybe Alys made the offer because it was easier to worry about other peoples’ problems than her own, better to focus on healing others’ pain than to feel that which Sascha’s absence had left imprinted upon her soul. She understood their hesitation, of course; it was no small thing to lose a companion, and she was forever changed by the experience, whatever came next. But she was tired of being fragile and useless, and keen to be able to help others once more rather than focusing inward on her own pain and loss.
