Liam made his way over to the tent, attempting to help in Maea’s quest to take it apart. Unfortunately, there was nothing there to salvage either. Perhaps a bedroll, from inside, but the tent itself was in tatters, just like the rest of the camp. It was on the tip of his tongue to offer her a place to stay, but it seemed she was determined to keep the conversation on him. Maybe that was her coping mechanism. Or maybe she just didn’t want to talk about it with him.

He wasn’t sure why that thought left a bad taste in his mouth, but it did nonetheless. They might not have known each other long, but he thought they were on their way to being friends, and friends, he thought, could rely on each other. He wanted to be that for someone, he realized: someone to be relied on, to be depended upon.

”I don’t know,” he answered honestly, thrusting those thoughts to the back of his mind. ”Here is… familiar. I just… think I’m finished being a hermit.” He’d been alone for so long, and where had it gotten him? Perhaps that was why he’d connected with Maea so quickly - he was simply starved for any attention, and she’d given it in spades. ”I want to be somewhere I can make a difference.” What that meant, though, remained to be seen.
