Tell the tales of the trail of dead

Liam’s returning smile was affectionate. He wasn’t sure exactly when he’d come to rely on Maea’s presence in his life - and how he’d done so as quickly as he had - but she was a very welcome addition to an otherwise largely solitary lifestyle. Even something as simple as having her in his home warmed his heart in a way he didn’t want to look at for too long.
Maea wrapped her arms around herself, rubbing her upper arms, and Liam frowned. ”Are you cold?” he asked, glancing around the living room. He had put away most of the blankets, given that the season had changed and the weather had warmed, but he could still fetch one if needed.
Turning his attention back to the stew - which, fortunately, was very difficult to burn, he seemed to realize that he had indeed left dinner halfway done. ”Just some venison stew,” he said, making his way back to the counter. He picked up the knife he’d been using and resumed chopping the carrot, as though nothing particularly out of the ordinary had happened. ”Would you… care to stay for some?” he asked hesitantly. She’d never taken him up on the offer before, but today felt different. She was already here, after all.

Losing self in myself
And my demons make demands
