Especially as it echoed things she had been doing instinctively, if not entirely correctly or accurately. If it took practice then she would practice. The benefits of relocating and upending her entire life was that new habits were easier to form. Already she spent her morning hours with physical training; why not devote a few minutes before bedtime to some grounding and breathing exercises so that she could tame her mind, as well?

"Back when I ran into that person... the last thing I wanted was to be in my body," she recalled. "On one hand I felt so trapped and beside myself that all I wanted was to lash out... but on the other hand, it was as if nothing ever really touched me. Like I'd gone completely numb and unfeeling. Was that... disassociation, too?"
