It had taken a little time to get from the desert to the beach, Hadama stepping through moonlight with the girl held cradled in his arms. For all that she was an adult the differences in their sizes made her seem even more childlike, and her actions only reinforced that semblance. Now that the danger was passed he moved with a measured stride, careful not to jostle her. She was one of his Torchers, and that would have been enough, but she was also Safrin's daughter and seeing her bright and unabashed cheerfulness lost beneath her fears struck straight to the Tidebreaker's already over-burdened heart.
"Nova," he murmured quietly as he made his way up to the door of the house she had given directions to through her sniffles. "Is your sister home tonight?" That she had a brother he already knew, but he had only met Calypso previously. A sensible young woman, and one he hoped would be able to care for Nova's trauma better than a King with no experience with children.
But if she was not, then he would do his best to reassure the girl until one of her siblings returned.
With that thought in his mind he stood in front of the door, his arms filled so that he could not knock, and instead lifted his voice to whoever might be home. "Calypso?"
