The stammer wasn't really noticeable given how much his own heart was breaking, or how unhappy Boreal was at seeing the body of her cub exhumed. Even knowing it was for a good reason - the best reason - didn't make painless for any of them. Easier, yes, but not without a ripping open of scabs that had barely begun to close. There was fresh blood in all their hearts as Tal shuffled forwards, the precious bundle held gently in his arms.
"Th'cellar," he agreed quietly, wishing it would start to rain. The last thing he wanted was to cry now and make things harder for Alys, but his heart and his eyes weren't giving him much choice in the matter. He'd never had a poker face worth anything at all, and wearing his heart on his sleeve meant in grief as well as anger and joy.
"She'll be safer there'n anywhere else." He headed in that direction, his steps leaden but sure as he took pains not to jostle the fragile body he held so carefully. His vision may have been misty but he knew their back yard too well to trip there. It was a promise he would do his best to keep, for all their sakes. "Can... can y'get th'door for us?"
