Soh felt herself soften towards Flora, leaning over to squeeze her friend’s arm with one hand. ”I know,” she replied. ”It’s just… I don’t really know if I want to keep sleeping with him. Like you said before, I tend to get attached, and I’m not sure if that’s something I want.” And her affection currently lay elsewhere. She really did owe it to Flora to tell her the truth, after all they’d shared with one another. Flora had always been forthcoming with her, anyway, and didn’t she deserve the same from Soh?
But talk turned to Jack instead, and Soh reached out for a tart of her own to nibble on as Flora regaled her with the tale of their fight. This, at least, was solid ground on which Soh could stand. Flora hid it well, but she could tell from her too-casual words, the layered tension underneath - she was hurting, and that was something that Soh could try to fix.
”Talking about feelings is hard,” Soh pointed out. ”Even for those of us who want to.” She thought of Koa again, of how close she’d been recently to blurting out her own unwelcome feelings. ”Maybe he just doesn’t know what to say.”
