Between unexpected nap time and the lecture Koa figures the kid has had enough; kneeling slightly, he extends a hand to help Kai up, the picture of benevolent maturity.
But the scrappy boy has other ideas, and Koa's caught off guard. Too late he springs back as legs go flying, stumbling when one of his cousin's feet slams into his ankle. "Ow! Rude!" But there's no true disparagement in his voice. Rather, he's amused and a little impressed. He can't blame his cousin for fighting dirty, not when he himself set that tone.
Despite his less-than-steady footing, Koa dodges the punch to his ribs with ease: "You're getting fancy again!" he taunts his cousin, grinning, though he winces slightly as his bruised ankle protests bearing weight. Keeping his shoulders hunched defensively, he starts a right jab toward face. It's a feint, though; he shifts abruptly, turning his weight and pivoting his feet to lend momentum to the punch he throws at Kai's right side.
