Alys handed over the final jar to Deimos and unstoppered her own. She hummed her agreement, though she couldn't help the unease that unfurled in her chest. Yes, Sunjata may have the best of intentions, but with everything that had happened, Alys couldn't help but have an I'll believe it when I see it mentality towards the protection of King's End.

She hoped that Mort wouldn't mind melted snow being returned to him; she was unlikely to manage to get this back to him still frozen.
