Her smile falters and steadies again as he cuts so cleanly through the mess of guilt and second-guessing she’s been dragging behind her like a weighted train. When he tells her not to torture herself over choices she never had, something in her eyes goes wet again—but it doesn’t spill. This time, it feels less like breaking and more like softening, easing the tension she hadn’t even realized she was still clinging to.
"Gods, you’re annoying," she mutters, voice thick with something fond and aching and grateful all at once. "You just… say all the right things and then expect me to keep functioning like I haven’t just been emotionally drop-kicked in the heart."
And then she’s moving—not dramatically, not in that practiced, poised way she usually performs exhaustion—but bonelessly, genuinely, slumping sideways against Kaisel with a sigh that deflates her like a balloon losing air. Her head lands on his shoulder, and she makes no effort to straighten or sit up. "Of all the idiots to wander into my bar tonight," she murmurs, her words muffled slightly against the fabric of his shirt, "I’m really fucking glad it was you."
She closes her eyes for a moment, breathing in the scent of sweat and salt and whatever faint soap he used, something grounding and familiar in all the best ways.
Then, without lifting her head, she adds dryly, "If you wanna borrow my invisibility ring next time you spar with Koa, just say the word. I think a phantom punch to the jaw would really make your point." One arm snakes lazily across his chest in a lopsided hug as she snorts softly. "Though he'll absolutely accuse you of cheating."
