Wake me up, I've been asleep for too long

If Soh had been looking for a relationship, then she might have balked at Ace's profession. But this - whatever this was - was not a serious thing. They'd hooked up one time, and since Soh had no desire to take it any further... well, who was she to judge what Ace did for a living? But his question brought a laugh bubbling to her lips. Is that a serious question? she asked with a playful grin. In other words, did she really seem like the type to dabble in drugs?
The bartender brought their drinks, and Soh accepted hers with a word of thanks. She took a sip, savoring the tart flavor. No, I think I'll stick to alcohol, she added silently. Not that she drank often, either, and when she did, she stuck to fruitier cocktails where she couldn't really taste the alcohol. Still, it seemed like a safer bet than whatever Ace happened to be peddling.
But now that they had their drinks and were no longer dancing, Soh found that she wasn't quite sure what to do with herself next. She had effectively (she thought) shut down whatever chemistry had been bubbling to the surface on the dance floor, and with little to no common ground with the man next to her, she was grasping at straws for what to say. Instead of talking, then, she took another sip of her drink, gazing sidelong at Ace and wondering if he'd be able to fill the silence, or if this was where their evening would inevitably end.
