To hear that his best friend is hot, too, fills Mateo with utter pride, as if he had anything to do with it. Which, did he? Fuck it, he'll take some credit. "Yes, well, if you had flirted with him before he had gotten with Isla, you would have found him to be a decent kisser. I ought to know, because I taught him how," he says. Granted, yes, that would have put them a dangerous few steps removed from kissing each other, but he stands by his teaching.

Leaning in as well and widening his eyes in agreement, the botanist lets out a low whistle.
