Kaisel
One foot in the ground
One foot in the grave
It's probably for the best neither of them are able to read minds. Either one of them picking up on the other's staunchly denied desires would have sent them both to ruin. It would certainly have alleviated the confusion that chafes against them, threatening the gentle ease they could normally lean into. Still convinced Flora's braiding her own noose based on the conversation on the deck, Kaisel is startled by the free-flowing laugh she unleashes. His 'brows shoot up to his hairline, but it coaxes a more honest smile from him in turn, as if the sound of her joy is all it takes to smooth out his ruffles. "Maybe they're just all soft," he teases gently, still wary about those sharper edges she kept leaning on earlier.

There's still something too docile about her, but he'll take the fragile smiles over the too-quiet denials, so he props his other hand under his chin too, content to imagine the dreams and stars of her past along with her. At the mention of Enzo he better grasps the shadow that lingers under the upturn of her lips. One of those bittersweet memories, where the cherished moment is happy, but the present echo of loss is staggering. He did not mean to drag her through this, thought she doesn't seem to resist as she wanders down those corridors of her past, lonely as they are now with only her feet gracing them.

She quiets with a drink and Kaisel tilts his head further into one hand as her story fades. The other ruffles his hair with idle energy, the memory of the beach bonfire and the star he'd searched for feeling so distant in this moment. "Yeah," he says with a long exhale, as if he regrets the childish notion that a dying light had any power. "Like you, the wish has not been fulfilled. Starting to think it's all a hoax that Safrin romanticized to see who she could trick into whispering to her." Safrin had enough of his dreams, he need not send her any more. "It's nice to think something so easy could change it all though," he says with a wistfulness and an upwards glance, as if there's stars overheard right now beckoning for fantasies to pluck into creation. "Nothing's ever that easy though," he admits, his gaze flicking back to her's. He's still for a moment, contemplating his next words carefully, which is rare for him.

"What was Enzo like?" Risky, he knows, but there's a genuine desire to understand this large part of her that has always been buried.
It's not the devil at your door
It's just your shadow on the floor
Wearing a watery blue, faded and stretched-out sparkling hair tie on his left wrist
