VESPER
Vesper feels it the moment her mind shifts—like a bruise touched too hard. The violet in her thoughts darkens, coiling tighter, thrashing once before curling in around something he recognizes. Pain. Anger. A flicker of digust. And behind it all, a memory sharp enough to cut. Pierce.
His jaw ticks, just once. The taste of it—of him—sticks bitter at the back of his throat. He doesn’t need the details. He doesn’t want them. Not when he can already feel the heat and pleasure tangled around something so wrong it leaves his shadows restless against his skin.
"Doubt you know me well enough to know what I would or wouldn't care about," he says finally, too dry to be kind and too even to be cruel. His voice stays light as smoke, but it lands with weight all the same. "And clearly I don't know you, either." Despite how broken Vesper's moral compass was, even it wouldn't guide a member of the Family between his thighs.
He doesn’t look at her as he speaks. Doesn’t let his stare burn into hers the way it could, the way it used to before magenta had soiled all the parts of her he'd once found so enticing. Instead, he pulls a sprig of peppermint bark from the pocket of his coat, unhurried, letting the silence stretch as he slides it past his teeth, the cool sweetness biting through the ash in the air.
