flora
"Oh my gods" Flora groans, dramatically dragging her heels through the dirt like each step might be her last. "Why is it always rocks???" Despite her protests, she keeps pace—just with the mournful air of someone who believes she was destined for chaise lounges and cocktails, not trudging up a volcano for more fucking rocks.
Thankfully, Spice is with her, the little dragon flitting around her shoulders like a snowflake caught in summer, exhaling a constant cool mist that keeps the worst of the Apopo heat from making her hair frizz into oblivion. "You are my only salvation," she tells the dragon seriously, tilting her face into the frosty breath with a blissed-out sigh.
At Melita’s question, she perks up slightly, nudging a small rock off the path with the toe of her sandal. "The Sugar Tide," she announces, like she’s unveiling a royal proclamation. "That’s her name. The one time I tried to open her up, it was so dark I could barely see past the bow, and I bailed before it got really dangerous."
Then, turning toward Melita with a grin and a gleam in her eye, she says, "Wanna race sometime? You’d win, obviously, but it’d be fun. Plus we could make everyone bet on us and then split the winnings."
